Hey Dennis,

When Cliff and I were kids, we had Spanky as the family pet. We were living in Kitzingen and dad was assigned to the 2nd BN, 3rd ID (Same group that is there now) The commander found out about Spanky and convinced my dad that he needed to play the part of the mascot. He had the blanket made specifically for Spanky and they would send a staff car and handler to get the dog for big events (even if my parents we not invited!). My dad had great trepidation as the dog really was not trained and was afraid he would act up..........which he did at a hail and farewell. Dignitaries in the stands, colors presented, everyone in their Class "A's"....big-wig central. A 21 gun salute begins and with each report from the cannons the dog would first bark, then fart. Made for an interesting event.
